Marital Mediation

Marital mediation is a lifeline for a married couple that want to remain married but need help with their ability to effectively communicate their respective goals and objectives when inevitably a conflict arises. It is a path to avoid suffering and destructive conflict by gaining insight into how to approach marital disputes in a productive and communicative manner.

At Mediate for Life, we help married couples work through difficult periods in their marriage. The presence of two mediators, one with a background in the Law and one a licensed Social Worker allows for a comprehensive analysis of the couple’s finances; understanding legal options; addressing interpersonal and family dynamics and finding practical and sustainable solutions.

Keep in mind that marital mediation is not therapy or marriage counselling and does not attempt to analyze the psychological back story of the couple. Instead, the Marital Mediator works with the couple to address concrete problems and provide them with the skills of dispute resolution so that they may negotiate goals and tasks in the face of future disputes.

Couples Relationship Issues

The once relatively simple definition of a relationship has changed markedly in the last two decades — the choices people make today span the spectrum from polyamory; bisexual relationships; pansexuality; queer; fluid; throuple’s; senior (50+) long term dating; multiracial relationships to living together, with or without a child, and with no intention of getting a conventional marriage.

No matter what type of relationship you have, they all have issues, conflicts and/or disputes to work through. Within any couple relationship, the level of competent communication or the dynamic of sexual intimacy or the specter of lack of trust can destroy a relationship unless it’s addressed and resolved.

Our mediators have the sensitivity, strategies, insight and wisdom to help couples deal with financial pressures, boundary violations, unmet emotional support, individual vs couple expectations and societal pressures and many other of the issues that might arise in a relationship.

Pre-Nuptial Agreements

Preparing for marriage is exciting, but discussing finances can feel overwhelming. Pre-nuptial agreement mediation provides an open environment to address financial plans and future goals collaboratively. We help craft a fair, comprehensive agreement that protects both partners and builds a strong foundation of trust for your life together.
